Imola 2015 Imola 2015 Finals

Roland Fischer wins both races and the Historic F3 1000cc European Trophy as the "screamers" finish their 2015 season on this fantastic Italian track. Conditions were perfect for free practice on Friday. However, on Saturday, competitors faced entirely different and very wet conditions. Fischer took pole ahead of Widmer and Timms. Rain intensity further increased for race 1 where Widmer had the best start but subsequently suffered from lack of power due to an incorrect carburator float level and thus was passed to the back of the field while Fischer drove superbly in the rain and won with ease. He even managed to take a place on the podium ahead of most 2-liter cars! Slotine worked his way through the field to take second place ahead of Delea and Timms. Sunny and warm weather greeted competitors for race 2 on Sunday. Fischer stormed away from the start whereas Widmer's engine cut out due to a broken distributor rotor as the lights went off - luckily the field managed to steer around the stationary Brabham! Fischer initially built up a substantial lead but Timms closed in over the final laps after one of the rockers failed on Fischer's Tecno. However, Fischer managed to hang on to victory ahead of Timms, Delea and Slotine. Fischer wins the championship ahead of the duo of Timms and Widmer who scored equal points. Magny-Cours Grand Prix Historique 2015 Magny-Cours Grand Prix Historique

The Historic F3 1000cc European Trophy returned to Magny-Cours after a 10 year absence. Conditions in qualifying on Saturday morning were very challenging due to lingering over-night humidity combined with oil residue. Derossi managed the slippery track best and secured pole ahead of Widmer, Fischer and a trio of invited Historic Formula Fords. The sun came out in the afternoon and with it grip on the track improved greatly for race 1. Initially, Fischer lead the race while Derossi and Widmer fought over third. Close racing could be seen throughout the field such as the closely matched trios of Bosson, Slotine and Messer and Timms, Müller and Poponcini. For a while it looked as if Widmer was going to secure his second win when Derossi spun and Fischer retired due to a broken rocker. However, an oil leak due to a failing O-ring on the filter housing sent Widmer into a series of spins over the last 2 laps. In the end, Derossi won ahead of Widmer and Slotine who secured third after a fine performance from the back ahead of Bosson and Messer. Messer and Hedger helped Widmer fix his car just in time for race 2. Fischer lead from the start ahead of his shadow Widmer while Derossi and Messer fought over third until Derossi had to retire after a flat spot on his front tire exposed the underlying carcass. Widmer managed to close the gap over the final laps as Fischer's tires were fading quickly and they headed side-by-side into the second to last corner. Fischer managed to keep the better end and won ahead of Widmer and Messer who got more and more comfortable with the Grand Prix track. Results and pictures are now online.

Oulton Park Gold Cup 2015 Oulton Park Gold Cup

Twenty screamers gathered for two stand-alone HF3 races at the Oulton Park Gold Cup and enjoyed a superb track and excellent weather. Qualifying on Saturday saw Simon Armer grab pole ahead of Widmer, Scott and Seaman. Seaman and Widmer had the best start in race 1 and lead the field until Widmer had to retire on lap two due to a jammed carburetor slide throttle. Pole sitter Armer took over the lead from Seaman on lap 5 and gradually extended his lead to finish first ahead of Scott and Bosson after Seaman had a spin at Druids. Race 2 saw an intense battle again between Armer and Seaman with Widmer following closely on third ahead of Scott, Blockley, Messer and Bosson. Armer finally managed to pass Seaman on the outside at the Shell Oils hairpin on lap 7 and shortly thereafter Scott moved up to third when Widmer spun at the exit of the first chicane, thus dropping back to forth, followed by the closely matched trio of Bosson, Blockley and Messer. Oldtimer Grand Prix 2015 Oldtimer Grand Prix

After a 34 degree qualifying on Friday, competitors faced foggy and cloudy weather conditions on Saturday and Sunday. Race 1 was won by Fischer after a long fight with Derossi with both cars crossing the finish line with a gap of 1 second after a 30 minute race! Robert Retzlaff completed the podium ahead of Timms, Poponcini and Delea while Slotine struggled with ignition problems all weekend. Race 2 saw the same profile between Fischer and Derossi but when they were lapped by front runners, the gap between the Tecno and the Chevron grew up to 100 metres, until Fischer had to stop with overheating just 800m before the chequered flag! Derossi was happy to win race 2 while Jim Timms took a strong second place ahead of Fischer. Results and pictures are now online.

Dijon Grand Prix de L'Age d'Or 2015 Grand Prix de L'Age d'Or

As expected the brilliant but boiling hot conditions challenged both competitors and their screamers at the Grand Prix de L'Age d'Or at Dijon-Prenois. Several cylinder heads came off after qualifying which saw Gallo take pole position ahead of Derossi and Bankhurst, the latter unfortunately having to retire due to a seized engine. Seven teams representing GBGBGreat Britain, FRFRFrance, DEDEGermany, SESESweden, MCMCMonaco and CHCHSwitzerland competed for the Nations Cup 2015. Derossi took the early lead in race 1 but had to retire due to a problem with the exhaust system, thus clearing the way for Gallo who stormed to a commanding victory ahead of Messer and Slotine. A collision at the start of race 2 unfortunately claimed 3 cars and brought out the safety car but luckily no one was hurt. Once the safety car pulled in, Widmer managed to build a small lead ahead of Mussa, Timms and Slotine while the "trio infernale" of Fischer, Derossi and Blees fought their way through the field. In the end, Widmer celebrated his first victory ahead of Fischer and Derossi. Team FRFRFrance wins the Nations Cup 2015 ahead of SESESweden and MCMCMonaco. Results and pictures are now online.

Silverstone 2015 Silverstone International Trophy

31 screamers gathered on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit for the first double-header of the season. Derossi claimed pole ahead of Seaman, Fischer and Thompson in a shortened qualifying session. The lead in race 1 changed constantly among Derossi, Armer, Bankhurst, Thompson, Seaman and Fischer and eventually Thompson emerged as winner after an intense 9 lap battle ahead of Armer and Fischer. Derossi dropped out on the warm-up lap of race 2 due to a massive oil leak and thus left the battle for first to Fischer, Armer, Thompson and Bankhurst with Armer emerging as the winner just ahead of Thompson and Bankhurst. Lots of sunshine and a great start to the season altogether. Results, video and pictures are now online.

Goodwood 73rd Members' Meeting Goodwood #73MM - Photo Finish

The Derek Bell Cup for F3 screamers at the 73rd Members' Meeting in front of a sell-out 18'000 strong crowd turned out to be a true nail-biter with the closest finish possible. Simon Armer grabbed pole on Saturday in a qualifying which received a lot of media attention due to Paul Waine's spectacular leap over Mike Scott's Brabham. On Sunday, Armer maintained the lead for 14 out of 14 laps and recorded the fastest lap but locked the brakes on the final chicane. This gave James King in the Tony Mantle Chevron the opportunity to pass the nose of Armer's March by a mere 18-thousands of a second as they crossed the finish line closely followed by Peter Thompson in his BT21 to complete the podium. Further back great slip-stream battles could be seen throughout the race on this legendary high-speed track. Overall a fantastic and well-organised meeting sure to be remembered for attractions both on and off the track. Results, video and photos are now online.

Jean-Pierre Beltoise Jean-Pierre Beltoise

Sadly, Jean-Pierre Beltoise passed away on January 5th, 2015. Beltoise was a major part of French motorsport renewal in the early sixties, through racing motor bikes first and later with F3 1000cc, winning in Reims in 1965 with the Matra F3 and subsequently also the French F3 championship title in the same year. He then moved on to F1 where he raced in his Matra against pilots such as Stewart and Ickx and won the Monaco Grand Prix in 1972 in a BRM. He was also part of the Sports Cars Matra adventure with the legendary MS 670s in the early 70s. Even in the recent days, he never lost his passion for motor racing. A great loss for French racing history.
